The tentacled flathead or crocodile fish is a flathead within the order Scorpaeniformes, an order which also includes the scorpionfishes and stonefishes. It is found in the Western Indian Ocean; the Red Sea. The species now also occurs in the Mediterranean, having invaded as a Lessepsian migrant through the Suez Canal.

They eat algae only when they are young, as they grow up they need food, like other fish. Due to their nature of staying at bottom and not very agile swimmers, they are not able to compete for food and go hungry. This forces them to suck on slime coat of fish.
